We’re not just creating a festival. We’re creating change through the meeting of music, community, and action. That’s why we’re committed to reducing our footprint and contributing to a greener future.
We test new solutions, reduce consumption, and think circularly—so that resources are used more wisely, more gently, and over and over again. At the same time, we collaborate with partners who, like us, are pushing sustainable development forward.
But we can’t do it without you. When you take the train, choose plant-based food, sort your waste, and reuse your gear, you become part of the movement that makes a difference.
Here’s an overview of how we’re creating a festival with a smaller footprint and greater consideration.

We’re working to become CO₂e-neutral by 2028. This requires major changes in how we plan, produce, and consume. And it also requires something from you.
The biggest climate impact from Roskilde Festival comes from what we use together: transport, food, drinks, equipment, and waste. That’s why your choices matter—from how you get to the festival to what you eat and sleep in. When you take the train, choose plant-based options, and reuse your gear, you help reduce emissions—meal by meal, meter by meter.
We set concrete goals. We’re working to halve emissions from food and eliminate the use of diesel and gas—partly through our energy partnership with Andel. And we conduct CO₂e accounting to identify where we can make the biggest and fastest impact.

Waste is one of the biggest challenges at Roskilde Festival – but also one of the most important keys to change.
We are working hard to prevent waste and improve sorting so we can recycle much more. In 2024, we reached a 22% recycling rate – but our goal is 65%. That requires all of us to pull together, and it’s already making a difference. You’ll get bags in your campsite and can drop them off at clearly marked sorting stations. When you use the system correctly, you give resources a new life.
We are also cutting down on single-use consumption. That’s why you’ll see reusable cups and a phase-out of disposable tableware across the festival grounds. And the most important step? Skip the cheap camping gear that won’t last. Instead, you can rent tents, mattresses, and pavilions – and in 2024, nearly 9,000 people chose that option. It’s cleaner, smarter, and a step toward better habits.

We set high standards for food at Roskilde Festival – for both your sake and the planet’s. Our goal is 100% organic ingredients, more locally sourced produce, and a much smaller climate footprint.
The festival serves over 1.5 million meals in just one week. That’s why our food must be plant-based, organic, and produced with care. On the menu boards, you’ll see the One Planet Plate label, which marks dishes with a climate footprint below 0.5 kg CO₂e.
We want to prove that sustainable food can still taste amazing – and we work closely with vendors, suppliers, and partners to develop new solutions. It’s about the ingredients we put in the pot and how we use the land around us.
The more people choose green and responsible options, the bigger the impact we can make.

The festival is a test lab for new ideas and solutions in collaboration with partners and artists.
Since 2022, we’ve been directly connected to the Danish power grid in partnership with Andel. That meant saying goodbye to diesel generators – and in 2025, we’ll also eliminate bottled gas in food stalls.
With Carlsberg, we’re working to reduce the climate impact from production to serving. Meyer Sound, which supplies sound for our stages, has reduced their speaker power consumption by 20% and made their equipment smaller.
Through The Circular Lab, supported by the Tuborg Foundation, young entrepreneurs get the chance to test green solutions right in the heart of the festival. And through our Art & Activism program, we create a platform for artists and activists to spotlight the planet’s crises.

When you take part in Roskilde Festival, you’re helping to support young people working for a greener and more just world. All festival profits go to associations, movements, and projects that create cultural, social, and environmental change.
We believe that strong communities and engaged young people are key to future solutions. That’s why we support initiatives that combine activism, volunteerism, and great ideas – inspiring action both locally and globally.
Recently, we have supported Denmark’s Nature Conservation Youth Movement FLOR, The Green Youth Movement, and The Climate Psychology Youth Association. What they all have in common is that they empower young voices and actions in the green transition.
Every donation helps turn ideas into action – and dreams into change.
