During a stay at a folk high school, poet and commentator Haidar Ansari experienced the magic and community of singing together, but also the feeling of being a guest in a songbook that did not include him. This led him to create the podcast Haidar’s Songbook, where contemporary artists choose a song that deserves a place in a modern songbook and speaks to the experiences of their generation.

At this year’s Roskilde Festival, the acclaimed musician Brimheim appears in a special edition of the podcast and shares a song that has shaped her and her generation. Together, Haidar and Brimheim open a conversation about how music and art both reflect and influence us—and how it can create space for vulnerability and inner darkness.

Brimheim, aka Helena Heinsen Rebensdorff, is a Danish-Faroese singer and composer who in recent years has emerged as a strong musical and lyrical voice. Her lyrics revolve around doubt, desire and vulnerability, exploring intimate emotions that are often kept hidden.

Haidar Ansari is a Danish poet and commentator with an unconventional path into literature. He grew up in Urbanplanen on Amager and spent his youth in prison, where music became a refuge and a way to express feelings, he could not otherwise articulate.

The special edition is presented in collaboration with RADIO IIII and the podcast is produced by Munck Studios.
