For more than 25 years, Gorillaz have challenged the whole idea of what a band can be while taking over the world’s biggest festival stages with a colourful celebration of creative energy.

Many initially thought it was a humorous gimmick when former Blur frontman Damon Albarn teamed up with cartoonist Jamie Hewlett in 1998 to create a virtual band called Gorillaz. However, the band, which includes lead singer 2D, bassist Murdoc Niccals, drummer Russel Hobbs and guitarist Noodle, quickly became a fixture in popular culture with a series of hit singles accompanied by subtle videos and a strong debut album in 2001. It soon became apparent that Gorillaz was not just a creative experiment in what a band could be, but also a cultural force that was here to stay.

The band has released a long string of acclaimed albums, won numerous awards, and collaborated with an impressive array of artists from Elton John and Grace Jones to Kali Uchis and Snoop Dogg.

In 2026, Gorillaz are back with the album The Mountain, once again expanding their musical universe with global pop, club rhythms and South Asian musical elements in a work that explores change, loss and new beginnings. The album has been widely praised as one of their most ambitious and cohesive releases in years, underlining the band’s enduring ability to reinvent itself.

Over the years, the band have embraced a wealth of genres from electronic pop and hip-hop to indie rock and world music, and they have delivered fantastic live experiences, including at Roskilde Festival, which they last visited in 2018 with what Danish music magazine Soundvenue called a “legendary Orange triumph.”

Now the band returns to the Orange Stage, where in 2026 they will not only celebrate the 25th anniversary of their groundbreaking debut album but also perform songs from the new album The Mountain. We are very excited.
