Things are set to get dark and brutal when the Danish band Konvent return to Roskilde Festival, where they delivered a crushingly heavy lesson in doom metal back in 2022. This time, they’re bringing new material from the album Firesky. An album on which, with great musical ambition and terrifying heaviness, they continue their journey into musical darkness.
It has been 10 years since the band released their first self-released demo. Even back then, they caused a stir with a rare, seamless blend of doom and death metal, infused with a bleak gothic darkness. With crushing riffs and Rikke Emilie List’s impressive apocalyptic growl, they created a spine-chilling soundtrack to the bleak times we live in. And with every new release, Konvent seem to raise the artistic bar even higher.
They impressed both Danish and international critics with their outstanding album Call Down The Sun in 2022. In the meantime, they have also played a long series of shows at international festivals. The interest from abroad is also reflected in the fact that the renowned metal label Napalm Records has signed them. On the new album, Firesky, Konvent have kept their roots firmly planted in heavy, grinding doom, but the band also experiment with more progressive song structures, whilst allowing their sound to be coloured by a strong influence from black metal.
Live, Konvent always guarantee a compelling experience that almost puts the audience into a collective trance with their brutal sound, creating a cathartic cleansing in which one is confronted with humanity’s darkest sides, yet also finds collective strength and resistance. We can’t wait to have them back at Roskilde Festival with the impressive new songs.
