She is not only one of the Arab world's leading DJs, but also a prominent name on the international techno scene, and it's set to be a wild dance party when Palestinian Sama' Abdulhadi takes to the stage at Roskilde Festival this summer.
Although she has become known as a pioneer on the Palestinian electronic scene, her career began in Lebanon. There, she started creating music that drew inspiration from both Berlin's techno scene and the rave culture of the many clubs she frequented in Beirut. Returning to Ramallah in Palestine, she was invited to a Boiler Room session in 2018, and although she was virtually unknown internationally at the time, the video exploded in popularity and quickly earned her the nickname "queen of the Palestinian techno scene".
However, she is not just a queen, but also an ambassador who uses her influence to support opportunities for other Palestinians to express themselves artistically – among other things through her venue, Union, which serves as a networking and development hub for DJs, producers and other creative souls.
Her stated mission to put Palestine on the international techno map has been a resounding success, and she has performed at some of the world's leading festivals, such as Coachella, Glastonbury and Fusion. She makes no secret of the fact that rave culture is both a free space where she can let herself go and an act of resistance against forces that want to silence her as a woman, an Arab and a Palestinian. It is an energy she brings to her always intense shows, where the party becomes a vital protest in itself.
