Led by the iconic singer and songwriter Robert Smith, The Cure’s music rises like a gothic cathedral within modern rock. Next summer, the legendary band will take over the brand-new version of the Orange Stage, ready once again to embrace generations of fans.
The members of The Cure were still teenagers when their debut album Three Imaginary Boys brought its distinctive sound to the world in 1979, three years after the band first formed. Throughout the 1980s, The Cure were hailed as pioneers of post-punk and goth rock thanks to cohesive and era-defining albums such as Pornography and Disintegration, featuring immortal classics like “Boys Don’t Cry”, “The Love Cats” and “Friday I’m In Love”.
These are songs that, for decades, have been sung along to at club nights, in stadiums and, not least, in millions of teenage bedrooms. They continue to inspire new artists across pop, indie rock, punk and metal. Though often associated with 1980s goth rock, The Cure keep exploring new directions with a sound that transcends both genre and time – led by Robert Smith, one of the most distinctive frontmen in rock history.
After a 16-year album hiatus, The Cure returned in 2024 with Songs of a Lost World, uniting timeless melancholy with deeply personal reflections on grief, death and love. The album proved that The Cure’s magic remains intact and was met with widespread critical acclaim. Robert Smith has already hinted that another record is on the way.
The Cure have played Roskilde Festival several times during their impressive career – most recently in 2019, when they delivered a three-hour performance that Danish daily Politiken awarded six hearts, calling it “a dark gothic dream” that united generations of fans. The audience experienced everything from the biggest hits to rarely performed tracks, showcasing the band’s remarkable range.
In 2026, The Cure will celebrate 50 years as travellers through the dark and poetic realms of rock. It will be a historic occasion when they return to Roskilde Festival with deep dives into their back catalogue alongside material from their latest album.
