HEINALI & ANDRIANA-YAROSLAVA SAIENKOUA

SATURDAY 4 JULY

Otherworldly mix of Ukrainian folk songs, modular synths and sacred medieval visions

  • Saturday 4 July

With an album rooted in the music of the German medieval nun, mystic and composer Hildegard von Bingen, they created one of the most beautiful releases of 2025. And the Ukrainian duo Heinali & Andriana-Yaroslava Saienko have since enchanted audiences at prominent festivals such as Rewire, Le Guess Who and Unsound with a truly original soundscape, where medieval tones merge with modular synths and traditional Ukrainian vocal techniques.

Now, at Roskilde Festival, you have the chance to step into this unique musical universe when the duo presents their project Гільдеґарда (Hildegard) for the first time in Denmark. The project creates stunning musical connections – not only between modern electronic music and compositions created in the 12th century, but also between sacred musical traditions from Western Europe and Ukraine.

At the same time, Гільдеґарда (Hildegard) is a deeply moving musical prayer created in the shadow of the horrors of war. Producer Heinali has described how the shock of a Russian missile striking close to his studio in Kyiv led him to seek refuge in the spiritual realm of Hildegard of Bingen's music. And with Andriana-Yaroslava Saienko's vocals, a deep anchoring in Ukrainian culture is created, where old folk songs and lullabies are woven in, creating a fragile resistance to the language of violence. The roots of the music are old, but it speaks with acute necessity to the present day.
